2019 Governor's Awards for the Arts Ceremony on March 19
The North Dakota Governor’s Awards for the Arts program is presented by the Governor’s Office and the North Dakota Council on the Arts to recognize organizations and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the arts in the state.
Congratulations to the 2019 Governor's Awards for the Arts recipients!
Arts in Education: Annette Hovey (New Rockford)
Arts Organization: Jamestown Fine Arts Association (Jamestown)
Cultural Treasure: John Gross (Napoleon)
Individual Achievement: David Borlaug (Bismarck) and Jessie Veeder (Watford City)
Private Business: Office Sign Company (Fargo)
Awards are presented in five categories: Arts in Education (educator, school, or administrator); Arts Organization; Individual Achievement (artist, staff, or volunteer); and/or Private Business. New this year is the Cultural Treasure award. Criteria for the awards included: Expanding arts opportunities to new audiences; Improving the quality of arts experiences; Creating an appreciation for North Dakota’s cultural heritage; Making the arts more central to education and an integral part of community life; and Length of service.
Nominations were reviewed by NDCA, and final candidates are submitted to the Governor for selection of the award winners.
The awards reception and ceremony honoring this year’s recipients will take place on Tuesday, March 19th, at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum in Bismarck. A sumptuous reception kicks off this elegant evening at 5:00pm in the Northern Lights Atrium, followed by the awards presentation at 6:30pm in the Russell Reid Auditorium.
The public is welcome to attend this wonderful celebration of the arts in North Dakota;
registration and tickets are required. Tickets to the Governor’s Awards for the Arts
Ceremony are $30, due on or before March 15, 2019.
